Abhijit Muhurat
Abhijit Muhurat is the eighth of the fifteen daytime muhurtas, about 24 minutes either side of local noon. It is considered auspicious for almost any beginning, except on Wednesdays.
How it is calculated
The daytime from sunrise to sunset is divided into fifteen muhurtas of roughly 48 minutes each. The eighth, centred on local midday when the Sun is highest, is Abhijit. Its exact clock time therefore depends on your longitude and the season: it is not simply 11:48 to 12:36.
When it is used
Abhijit is the muhurat of last resort: when no better muhurat can be found, most works may be started in Abhijit. Tradition excludes it on Wednesdays and for a few specific acts such as travel to the south. Hastro adds points to any window that includes Abhijit and lists it separately when the surrounding choghadiya is inauspicious.

Is Abhijit valid at night?
There is a night Abhijit (Nishita) at local midnight used for some pujas, notably Shivaratri and Janmashtami, but the daytime Abhijit is the muhurat for beginnings.
Does Abhijit override Rahu Kaal?
If the two overlap, which can happen on Wednesday and Friday, Rahu Kaal is generally respected. Hastro’s finder drops such windows.
