What Panchak is

When the Moon is in Kumbha and Meena, in the sidereal span from 296°40′ to 360°, it moves through Dhanishtha (second half), Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. This stretch is Panchak, “the five”, and it returns every 27 days for roughly five days.

What is avoided

Tradition avoids five things in Panchak: collecting firewood or fuel, building a roof, buying or making a bed, travelling south, and cremation without the prescribed remedy. Ordinary work and most festivals are unaffected. Some almanacs name the Panchak by weekday (Agni Panchak on Tuesday, Raj Panchak on Monday, and so on) with different severities.

Hastro marks Panchak on the panchang and lets each muhurat rule decide whether to penalise it.

FAQ

Is Panchak bad for a wedding?

Most marriage muhurat lists do not exclude Panchak as such, but many families avoid it. Check the event’s rule on Hastro, which shows which factors it applies.
