Navamsa
The navamsa (D9) is the divisional chart that splits each sign into nine parts of 3°20′, the same width as a nakshatra pada. It is read with the birth chart, especially for marriage and planetary strength.
How it is built
Each 30° sign is divided into nine navamsas of 3°20′. For a movable sign the nine parts start from the sign itself, for a fixed sign from its ninth, for a dual sign from its fifth. A planet’s navamsa sign is therefore decided by its degree within its sign. Since 3°20′ is exactly a nakshatra pada, the navamsa is tied to the pada: the 108 navamsas of the zodiac correspond to the 108 padas.
How it is read
A planet in the same sign in the rashi and navamsa charts is vargottama and strengthened. The navamsa lagna and the seventh house of the navamsa are read for marriage. Hastro draws the navamsa next to the rashi chart in both North and South Indian styles.

Why is the navamsa called D9?
